{"id":30996,"date":"2018-10-27T11:43:43","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=30996"},"modified":"2018-10-27T11:43:43","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:13:43","slug":"judicial-appointments-in-a-flux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/judicial-appointments-in-a-flux\/","title":{"rendered":"Judicial appointments in a flux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/judicial-appointments-in-a-flux\/article22853520.ece\"><b>Judicial appointments in a flux<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The retirement of Chief Justices of various High Courts just within a few days of their appointments as Chief Justices, reveal that judicial appointments in the High Courts remain in a constant state of flux.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Details:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chief Justices of various High Courts and several SC judges will retire this year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, the posts of Chief Justice in seven High Courts have been lying vacant for the past several months, with Acting Chief Justices at the helm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, in the Supreme Court, with Justice Amitava Roy retiring on February 28, the vacancies will go up to seven, reducing the number of judges to 24.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctioned strength is however 31.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There will be five more retirements in the Supreme Court in 2018, including that of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There has been increasing concern over rising vacancies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The concern has also been highlighted in a judgment delivered by a Supreme Court Bench, led by Justice A.K.
