{"id":31005,"date":"2018-10-27T11:46:31","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31005"},"modified":"2018-10-27T11:46:31","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:16:31","slug":"rustom-2-uav-takes-to-the-skies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/rustom-2-uav-takes-to-the-skies\/","title":{"rendered":"Rustom-2 UAV takes to the skies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/rustom-2-uav-takes-to-the-skies\/article22853517.ece\"><b>Rustom-2 UAV takes to the skies<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out a test-flight of the <\/span><b>unmanned aerial vehicle Rustom-2.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Introduction:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The flight was conducted at its Aeronautical Test Range in Chitradurga of Karnataka.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Significance:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This flight assumes significance because this is the first flight in user configuration with a higher power engine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rustom-2:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rustom-2 belongs to a family of UAVs under development, besides Rustom-1 and <\/span><b>Rustom-H.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>medium-altitude long-endurance drone (MALE)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will fill a critical capability gap in the inventory of the armed forces.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can fly up to an altitude of 22,000 feet and has an endurance of over 20 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is capable of carrying payloads for electronic and signal intelligence missions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, the three services employ hundreds of Israeli drones and have projected a requirement of hundreds of more UAVs, including armed variants, in the near future.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DRDO is also developing other drones in different categories.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rustom-2 UAV takes to the skies Context: Recently, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out a test-flight of the unmanned aerial vehicle Rustom-2.
