{"id":31031,"date":"2018-10-27T11:52:52","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31031"},"modified":"2018-10-27T11:52:52","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:22:52","slug":"pak-to-face-monitoring-by-international-review-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/pak-to-face-monitoring-by-international-review-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Pak. to face monitoring by international review group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/paks-record-to-be-reviewed-in-june\/article22840508.ece\"><b>Pak. to face monitoring by international review group<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pakistan \u00a0has been put back on the <\/span><b>\u201cGrey List\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for terror financing by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What is more in news?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The country will, under a <\/span><b>\u201cCompliance Document,\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">now be required to furnish a fresh report to the<\/span><b> International Co-operation Review Group (ICRG).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accordingly, the country will <\/span><b>undergo a review at the next Plenary in June, 2018.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would be presented a <\/span><b>full action plan on how it is expected to crack down on terror groups banned by the UN Security Council.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The move was pushed by four nominating countries, the <\/span><b>U.S., the U.K., Germany and France.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Background:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In mid-January,<\/span><b> the four countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have written to the FATF stating that even though Pakistan had an anti-money laundering\/anti-terror funding regime in place, <\/span><b>effectiveness of the implementation was inadequate.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile a rally by <\/span><b>LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa state\u2019s decision to raise funding for Haqqani group-linked seminaries over the week <\/span><b>didn\u2019t help Pakistan\u2019s case<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this week, Pakistan had claimed victory in the ongoing FATF meeting, as a preliminary discussion in the ICRG <\/span><b>failed to build a consensus on putting it again on the watch list, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and GCC countries objected to Pakistan\u2019s nomination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the recent Plenary session there were <\/span><b>no objections to the nomination of Pakistan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>A <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">move that could see it face <\/span><b>financial strictures, and ratings downgrades by international banking and credit rating agencies until Islamabad carries out a full crackdown on terror groups.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Behind the scenes:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S. worked hard to bring Saudi Arabia around.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Germany worked on the GCC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India was able to speak to Russia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the sources, China may have been incentivised to help because it had become Vice-Chair of the FATF committee.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pak. to face monitoring by international review group Context: Pakistan \u00a0has been put back on the \u201cGrey List\u201d for terror financing by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary.
