AM (Amplitude Modulation) and FM (Frequency Modulation) are two fundamental techniques used in electronic communication to transmit information over radio waves.<\/p>\n

What is Amplitude Modulation (AM)?<\/h2>\n

In AM, the amplitude of the carrier wave is varied<\/span> in accordance with the information signal being transmitted<\/span>. This means that as the amplitude of the input signal changes<\/span>, the amplitude of the carrier wave<\/span> also changes proportionally. The frequency and phase of the carrier wave remain constant during this process<\/span>.<\/p>\n

AM is typically used for broadcasting over long distances due to its ability to travel further. However, <\/span><\/span>it is more susceptible to noise and interference, which can degrade sound quality.<\/span><\/p>\n

Key Characteristics of AM-<\/strong><\/p>\n

Carrier Wave-<\/strong> Amplitude varies<\/span>; frequency and phase remain constant.
\nSound Quality-<\/strong> Generally lower than FM; more susceptible to static and noise.
\nFrequency Range-<\/strong> Typically operates between 535 to 1705 kHz.
\nDistance-<\/strong> Can cover larger distances due to lower frequencies.<\/p>\n

What is Frequency Modulation (FM)?<\/h2>\n

FM involves varying the frequency of the carrier wave according to the information signal<\/span>. In this method, while the amplitude remains constant, the frequency changes in relation to the amplitude of the input signal.<\/p>\n

This technique allows FM signals to provide better sound quality<\/span> and greater resistance to noise compared to AM signals<\/span>. FM is widely used for music and voice broadcasting because it can transmit a wider bandwidth of audio signals.<\/p>\n

Key Characteristics of FM-<\/strong><\/p>\n

Carrier Wave-<\/strong> Frequency varies<\/span>; amplitude and phase remain constant.
\nSound Quality-<\/strong> Higher than AM; less susceptible to noise.
\nFrequency Range-<\/strong> Typically operates between 88 to 108 MHz.
\nDistance-<\/strong> Generally covers shorter distances than AM but offers superior sound fidelity.<\/p>\n

What is Signal Modulation?<\/h2>\n

Signal modulation is a technique used in telecommunications where a carrier wave’s characteristics<\/span>– such as amplitude<\/span>, frequency<\/span>, or phase<\/span>– are altered in accordance with a modulating signal (the information being sent). This modulation allows for effective transmission of audio, video, or data signals over various media.<\/p>\n

Types of Modulation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Amplitude Modulation (AM): Varies amplitude.
\nFrequency Modulation (FM): Varies frequency.
\nPhase Modulation (PM): Varies phase; often used in conjunction with FM.<\/p>\n
