{"id":31062,"date":"2018-10-27T11:59:58","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31062"},"modified":"2018-10-27T11:59:58","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:29:58","slug":"sc-against-disclosure-of-ias-prelims-marks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sc-against-disclosure-of-ias-prelims-marks\/","title":{"rendered":"SC against disclosure of IAS prelims marks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/sc-against-disclosure-of-ias-prelims-marks\/article22830249.ece\"><b>SC against disclosure of IAS prelims marks<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Supreme Court has held that details of marks \u2014 raw and scaled \u2014 scored in the Civil Services Exam cannot be \u201cmechanically\u201d disclosed under Right to Information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Background:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision came on an appeal filed by the Union Public Service Commission against a Delhi High Court order to divulge the marks on the basis of a petition filed by unsuccessful candidates of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2010 (CSP).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The petitioners had sought the disclosure of marks (raw and scaled) awarded to them in the CSP 2010. They wanted information on cut-off marks for each subject, scaling methodology, model answers and the results of all candidates.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Supreme Court\u2019s Judgement:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Court has held that marks in Civil Services Exam cannot be directed to be furnished mechanically<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The apex court has observed that the need for transparency and accountability championed by the Right to Information Act should be balanced by the requirement of confidentiality of sensitive information.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SC against disclosure of IAS prelims marks Context: The Supreme Court has held that details of marks \u2014 raw and scaled \u2014 scored in the Civil Services Exam cannot be \u201cmechanically\u201d disclosed under Right to Information.
