{"id":31085,"date":"2018-10-27T12:04:34","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31085"},"modified":"2018-10-27T12:04:34","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:34:34","slug":"fire-and-fury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/fire-and-fury\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire and fury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-opinion\/fire-and-fury\/article22820312.ece\"><b>Fire and fury<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has demonstrated once again that his regime cares little about the lives of its own people.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Why in news?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The barbaric campaign of airstrikes and bombardments launched by government forces in rebel-held Eastern Ghouta, on the outskirts of Damascus, have killed at least 270 people in three days.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Eastern Ghouta:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eastern Ghouta, with an estimated population of 400,000, is one of the last significant areas held by militants fighting the regime.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It fell into the hands of the rebels in the early stages of the seven-year-long civil war, and repeated government attempts to overrun it were foiled.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was here that chemical weapons were used in 2013, killing hundreds of people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a wide range of militant groups in Eastern Ghouta, including the Saudi-backed Jaysh al-Islam, the Qatar-funded Faylaq al-Rahman, and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The militants in Eastern Ghouta and the jihadist elements amongst them have repeatedly shelled government-controlled neighbourhoods in Damascus.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fire and fury Context: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has demonstrated once again that his regime cares little about the lives of its own people.
