{"id":31141,"date":"2018-10-27T12:15:13","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31141"},"modified":"2018-10-27T12:15:13","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:45:13","slug":"experts-urge-more-funds-to-tackle-tuberculosis-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/experts-urge-more-funds-to-tackle-tuberculosis-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Experts urge more funds to tackle Tuberculosis crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/health\/experts-urge-more-funds-to-tackle-tuberculosis-crisis\/article22809370.ece\"><b>Experts urge more funds to tackle Tuberculosis crisis<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Tuberculosis (TB) has become a national crisis in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the opening day of the 5the Global Forum on TB Vaccines in New Delhi, Health Ministry assured the TB community that eliminating the disease by 2025 had the \u2018highest level of commitment from the PM office.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Death toll:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 4.2 lakh Indians die of the disease every year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of the 10 million cases globally, India shoulders the maximum burden with 2.8 million cases.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0According to Health Ministry data, only 63% of the patients infected with the airborne disease are currently under treatment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, 1,47,000 patients are resistant to first and second line TB medicines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the current rate of progress, global targets to eliminate TB by 2030 will be missed by a 150 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Way ahead:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Globally, governments need to invest more in TB research and development to meet the global targets.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Experts urge more funds to tackle Tuberculosis crisis Context: Tuberculosis (TB) has become a national crisis in India.
