Why in the news?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change notified the new Ecomark Rules on 26th September 2024. The scheme aligns with the ‘LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment) Mission. This new scheme replaces the previous Ecomark scheme of 1991.<\/p>\n

About Ecomark Scheme<\/h2>\n

1. About:<\/strong> The Ecomark Scheme provides accreditation and labelling for household and consumer products that meet specific environmental criteria while maintaining quality standards as per Indian norms.<\/p>\n

2. Key Objectives of the Ecomark Scheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n

i) Promoting Sustainable Consumption:<\/strong> The scheme encourages the demand for environment-friendly products by fostering consumer awareness of eco-conscious choices.<\/p>\n

ii) Enhancing Production Practices:<\/strong> It motivates manufacturers to adopt environmentally friendly production methods, aligning with sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n

iii) Ensuring Accurate Labelling:<\/strong> The scheme ensures that products carry accurate environmental labels and eliminates misleading information.<\/p>\n

iv) Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy:<\/strong> It promotes lower energy consumption and resource efficiency, contributing to a circular economy.<\/p>\n

3. Implementation Partners:<\/strong> The scheme will be implemented by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will collaborate in ensuring strict environmental standards for accredited products.<\/p>\n

Minimal Environmental Impact:<\/strong> Products certified under the Ecomark scheme will adhere to specific environmental criteria to reduce ecological footprints.<\/p>\n
