{"id":31239,"date":"2018-10-27T12:39:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31239"},"modified":"2018-10-27T12:39:00","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:09:00","slug":"you-value-a-rape-at-%e2%82%b96500-shocked-sc-asks-m-p-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/you-value-a-rape-at-%e2%82%b96500-shocked-sc-asks-m-p-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"You value a rape at \u20b96,500, \u2018shocked\u2019 SC asks M.P. govt."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/other-states\/you-value-a-rape-at-6500-shocked-sc-asks-mp-govt\/article22769481.ece\"><b>You value a rape at \u20b96,500, \u2018shocked\u2019 SC asks M.P. govt.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you doing charity by paying <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u20b9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6,500 to a rape victim, asked the Supreme Court on Thursday after going through an affidavit filed by the Madhya Pradesh government on the compensation given under the Nirbhaya Fund scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Introduction:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Supreme Court said that<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it was \u201cshocking\u201d that Madhya Pradesh, which was among the States that received maximum funds from the Centre under the Nirbhaya scheme, was disbursing a meagre <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u20b9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6,000-<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u20b9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6,500 to each victim of sexual assault.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 1,951 rape victims in Madhya Pradesh .<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The court had last month directed all States and Union Territories to file an affidavit indicating the amount received by them under the Nirbhaya Fund, the amount disbursed by them and the number of victims who had received it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As many as 24 States and UTs are yet to file their affidavits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In its order, the Bench noted that despite all talks, discussions and intent expressed on gender justice, 24 States and UTs have not yet filed their affidavits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It asked these States and UTs to file their affidavits within four weeks, \u201cif at all they were interested\u201d in the welfare of women.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>About Nirbhaya Fund Scheme:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nirbhaya Fund scheme was announced by the Centre in 2013 after the horrific December 16, 2012 gang-rape and murder case in Delhi, to support the initiatives of governments and NGOs working for women\u2019s safety.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Haryana:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Haryana government also faced the wrath of the top court for not filing its affidavit giving details of the Nirbhaya Fund disbursement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You value a rape at \u20b96,500, \u2018shocked\u2019 SC asks M.P. govt.
