{"id":31243,"date":"2018-10-27T12:40:32","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31243"},"modified":"2018-10-27T12:40:32","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:10:32","slug":"rouhani-to-push-for-investment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/rouhani-to-push-for-investment\/","title":{"rendered":"Rouhani to push for investment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/rouhani-to-push-for-investment\/article22765447.ece\"><b>Rouhani to push for investment<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian investment in Iran, including billions of dollars in connectivity, infrastructure and oil projects topped the agenda as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived for a three-day visit to India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Positive and right track<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two countries are on the same positive, right track.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Chabahar investment project is a \u201ckey objective\u201d for Iran while several MoUs would be signed after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government was committed to \u201cspeeding up\u201d work at the Chabahar Shahid Beheshti Project, denying reports that there had been any \u201cslowdown\u201d due to pressure from the U.S.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Threat of sanctions<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The visit, which comes close on the heels of a decision by the Modi government to allow Indians to invest in Iran in rupees signals an independent line from the United States, which is threatening new sanctions against Iran in the coming months.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the exception of Bhutan and Nepal, at present all foreign investments to be made in dollars. So investing in rupees in Iran is a step to boost interest in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rupee investment plan is expected to ease the path for businessmen wishing to circumvent challenges posed by the current sanctions regime against Iran.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Absence of banking and payment channels:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the sanctions were lifted after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on nuclear scrutiny was signed in 2015.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The absence of banking and payment channels has been a challenge for Indian businessmen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For addressing banking hassles, discussions on new investment routes, a double tax avoidance agreement, preferential trade agreements and a rupee-rial mechanism is going on.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rouhani to push for investment Context: Indian investment in Iran, including billions of dollars in connectivity, infrastructure and oil projects topped the agenda as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived for a three-day visit to India.
