{"id":31277,"date":"2018-10-27T12:56:13","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31277"},"modified":"2018-10-27T12:56:13","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:26:13","slug":"order-to-install-cctv-cameras-in-courts-is-only-for-security-reasons-clarifies-supreme-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/order-to-install-cctv-cameras-in-courts-is-only-for-security-reasons-clarifies-supreme-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Order to install CCTV cameras in courts is only for security reasons, clarifies Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/cctv-installations-in-courts-meant-only-for-security-reasons-sc\/article22751214.ece\"><b>Order to install CCTV cameras in courts is only for security reasons, clarifies Supreme Court<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Supreme Court passed orders for installation of CCTV cameras in courts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Background:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On March 28, 2017, the Supreme Court directed that CCTV cameras should be installed in courts and important locations of court complexes in at least two districts in every State and Union Territory.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The monitor of these cameras should be placed in the chamber of the district and session judge concerned.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The apex court had, in its order, made it clear that footage from the cameras would not be made available to the public under the Right to Information Act or without the permission of the High Court concerned.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The court had also considered the issue of CCTV cameras in tribunals where open hearing takes place like courts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was further directed that cameras may be installed in subordinate courts in a phased manner.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rationale behind this decision:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Supreme Court recently clarified that its orders is meant solely for security purposes and not to record proceedings, which anyway were open to the public.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For security and administration of justice<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b> \u201cSubstantial work\u201d done by government:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Supreme Court on Wednesday observed that \u201csubstantial work\u201d had been done by the government in this regard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The court asked the Union Law Ministry to take a call on whether CCTV cameras should be installed in central quasi judicial authorities within four weeks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Order to install CCTV cameras in courts is only for security reasons, clarifies Supreme Court Context: Recently, the Supreme Court passed orders for installation of CCTV cameras in courts.
