{"id":31285,"date":"2018-10-27T12:59:20","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31285"},"modified":"2018-10-27T12:59:20","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:29:20","slug":"centre-targets-industry-to-save-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/centre-targets-industry-to-save-power\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre targets industry to save power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/Industry\/centre-targets-industry-to-save-power\/article22754893.ece\"><b>Centre targets industry to save power<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Centre, through its company Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), is planning to replicate its success in the LED space in the commercial sector by creating a market for low-cost, energy-efficient motors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rationale behind this decision:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A large chunk of energy consumption goes to industry.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About 30-34% of the total energy consumption goes to the industrial sector, which is a substantial amount. And out of that, about 70% is electrical energy consumption.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of this electricity consumption is due to the use of motor-driven systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To address the efficiency issues in the entire system.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EESL had so far been able to create motors in the capacity range of \u00a01.1 KW to 22KW that are 30% cheaper and result in an average of 15% lower electricity usage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>EESL motors:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EESL motors are of the IE-3 level, which save between 7% to 23% of electricity compared with the current industry standard, depending on the application<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Present practice:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The present practice is based on using non-IE motors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> About 99% of the motors being used are IE-1 or non-IE.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Phase wise plans:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>First phase:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Phase 1 of the nation-wide programme, would seek to replace 1.2 lakh motors of the capacity of 1.1-22 KW, which would save 175 million units of electricity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Second phase:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the second phase, , two lakh motors would be replaced, including those of a capacity higher than 22 KW.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are in total about 11 million motors that can be replaced, which works out to about 15 billion units of electricity being saved.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This can lead to 6,000 MW of capacity reduction.
