Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

The Union Cabinet has approved the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat. The project will be executed in two phases.<\/p>\n

About\u00a0National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC)<\/h2>\n

1. It will be located at Lothal, Gujrat. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) is spearheading this initiative.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0The NMHC aligns with the Prime Minister\u2019s vision of showcasing India\u2019s 4,500-year-old maritime heritage.<\/p>\n

3. The project is expected to generate approximately 22,000 jobs, comprising 15,000 direct and 7,000 indirect employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

4. The construction of a Light House Museum, part of Phase 1B, will be funded by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL).<\/p>\n

5. The Governing Council which is chaired by the Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, will oversee this society for the project\u2019s implementation, management, and operation.<\/p>\n

6. Beneficiaries:<\/strong> \u00a0NMHC will benefit local communities, tourists, researchers, government bodies, educational institutions, cultural organizations, conservation groups, and businesses.<\/p>\n

Phase 1A<\/td>\nIt features a NMHC museum with six galleries, including a large Indian Navy & Coast Guard gallery.
\nIt includes naval artifacts, a replica of Lothal township, an aquatic gallery, and a jetty walkway.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Phase 1 B<\/td>\nIt expands with eight additional galleries, the world\u2019s tallest Light House Museum, and the Bagicha complex.
\nIt provides parking for 1,500 cars, a food hall, and a medical center.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Phase 2<\/td>\nCoastal States Pavilions developed by the respective states and union territories.
\nHospitality zone with a maritime-themed eco-resort and museuotels.
\nRecreation of the ancient Lothal City and a Maritime institute with a hostel.
