Recently, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) launched the first of two multi-purpose vessels (MPVs) for the Indian Navy.<\/p>\n

1. About<\/strong>: The first of two multi-purpose vessels (MPVs) for the Indian Navy was launched by Larsen & Toubro (L&T).<\/p>\n

2. Location:<\/strong> The launch took place at Kattupalli Shipyard, located near Ennore, around 45 km north of Chennai.<\/p>\n

3. This marks a significant achievement in L&T’s commitment to indigenous defense manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.<\/p>\n

4. Key Features of INS ‘Samarthak’:<\/strong> The vessel is named INS ‘Samarthak’ and is 107 meters in length with a width of 18.6 meters. It has a displacement of over 3,750 tonnes. It is designed and constructed entirely in-house by L&T, it showcases the company’s advanced design and construction capabilities.<\/p>\n

5. Multi-Role Capabilities:<\/strong> INS ‘Samarthak’ is equipped to serve multiple roles including:<\/p>\n

i) Conducting maritime surveillance and patrol operations.<\/p>\n

ii) Launching and recovering surface and aerial targets.<\/p>\n

iii) Providing humanitarian aid during crises.<\/p>\n

iv) Facilitating trials for the development of next-generation weapons and sensors for the Indian Navy.<\/p>\n
