Habeas Corpus: It is a Latin word which literally means \u2018to have the body of\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>2. It is a writ issued by the Supreme Court or the High Court to a person or entity who has detained another person, to produce the body of the latter before it.<\/p>\n<p>3. It primarily acts as a writ of enquiry, where the court examines the cause and legality of the detention. If the detention is found to be illegal, the court sets the detained person free.<\/p>\n<p>4. It can be issued against both public authorities and private individuals.<\/p>\n<p>5.
