{"id":31453,"date":"2018-10-27T14:09:10","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T08:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31453"},"modified":"2018-10-27T14:09:10","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T08:39:10","slug":"ngt-seeks-report-on-rainwater-harvesting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ngt-seeks-report-on-rainwater-harvesting\/","title":{"rendered":"NGT seeks report on rainwater harvesting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/tp-newdelhi\/ngt-seeks-report-on-rainwater-harvesting\/article22684516.ece\"><b>NGT seeks report on rainwater harvesting<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently directed the Delhi government to submit within three weeks a report on the number of flyovers here having rainwater harvesting systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why is in news?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by Mehrauli resident Vinod Kumar Jain who sought directions to make it compulsory for all government buildings of 100 square metres and above to have rainwater harvesting systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier, the NGT had rapped the State government for not submitting the detailed report.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The green panel had also directed the Centre and other public authorities to ensure that the rainwater harvesting systems are installed in every project including flyovers and bridges.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rain water harvesting:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rainwater harvesting is the accumulation and storage of rainwater for reuse on-site, rather than allowing it to run off. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rainwater can be collected from rivers or roofs, and in many places, the water collected is redirected to a deep pit (well, shaft, or borehole), a reservoir with percolation, or collected from dew or fog with nets or other tools.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Its uses include water for gardens, livestock, irrigation, domestic use with proper treatment, indoor heating for houses, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The harvested water can also be used as drinking water longer-term storage, and for other purposes such as groundwater recharge.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NGT seeks report on rainwater harvesting Context: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently directed the Delhi government to submit within three weeks a report on the number of flyovers here having rainwater harvesting systems.
