This development comes after a military standoff at the LAC that lasted for more than four and a half years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>1. Demchok is a disputed area where India and China have varying claims in the Charding La area. While, at Depsang, Chinese troops have been blocking Indian patrols from going beyond the Y-junction.<\/p>\n<p>2. These two friction points are regarded as legacy issues, where the dispute predates the 2020 Chinese incursions.<\/p>\n<p>3. The disengagement process has started at these points after an agreement on patrolling had been recently reached between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>4. The two sides have started the process of dismantling the temporary structures like prefabricated sheds and tents that have been built since 2020 Galwan clashes.<\/p>\n<p>6. Confidence building measures like regular ground commander level meetings are being held to ensure that the disengagement process is smooth and agreed terms of patrolling are put to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>5.
