{"id":31469,"date":"2018-10-27T14:12:49","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T08:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31469"},"modified":"2018-10-27T14:12:49","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T08:42:49","slug":"31469-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/31469-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Untitled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-business\/rbi-likely-to-keep-repo-rate-on-hold\/article22672598.ece\"><b>RBI likely to keep repo rate on hold<\/b><\/a><b> (The Hindu )<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Context:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The six-member monetary policy committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), is expected to maintain the status quo for the third straight review meeting as retail inflation is hovering close to the central bank\u2019s upper tolerance limit.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumer price index-based inflation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or retail inflation \u2014 the central bank\u2019s primary yardstick for setting interest rates \u2014 was 5.21% in December, just below the 6% upper band mandate of RBI.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reasons for high inflation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rising food prices was one of the main factors behind the 17- month-high retail inflation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rising oil prices and higher minimum support prices for farmers and slight deviation in the fiscal consolidation path have increased the probability of higher rates in 2018-19.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next year\u2019s fiscal deficit target of 3.3% is also under a cloud as revenue projections are seen as optimistic.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bond yields:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bond yields are expected to remain around current levels in the near term but trend towards 7.75% by September 2018.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RBI likely to keep repo rate on hold (The Hindu ) Context: The six-member monetary policy committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), is expected to maintain the status quo for the third straight review meeting as retail inflation is hovering close to the central bank\u2019s upper tolerance limit.
