But the court refused to take it on record.\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Dengue death<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The court was hearing a PIL on the implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In 2015, the apex court had taken suo motu cognisance of the death of a seven-year-old due to dengue. He was allegedly denied treatment by five private hospitals and his distraught parents had committed suicide.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Court\u2019s verdict:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justice Madan B. Lokur has described compilation of the Central government on solid waste management as \u201cjunk,\u201d \u201cgarbage\u201d and even \u201csolid waste.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Solid Waste Management Rules 2016:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government has revamped the Municipal Solid Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules 2000 and notified the new Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 on April 8, 2016.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The salient features of the SWM Rules, 2016 are as under:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Areas Cover:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These rules are applicable to;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every urban local body (Mega city to Panchayat level),<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outgrowths in urban agglomerations,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">census towns as declared by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">notified areas,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">notified industrial townships,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">areas under the control of Indian Railways,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">airports\/ airbases,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ports and harbours,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defence establishments,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">special economic zones<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State and Central government organisations,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">places of pilgrims,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">religious and historical importance as may be notified by respective State government from time to time<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every domestic, institutional, commercial and any other non residential solid waste generator situated in the areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Don\u2019t dump this junk here, says SC Context: The Centre had come to the court with the voluminous affidavit containing a collection of schemes, official correspondence and other documents on solid waste management across the country.
