It involves the<\/span> deployment<\/span> of military<\/span>, police<\/span>, and civilian personnel<\/span> to regions affected by conflicts or political instability.<\/span>

These countries include Cambodia<\/span>, El Salvador<\/span>, Guatemala<\/span>, Mozambique<\/span>, Namibia<\/span> and Tajikistan<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2. Positive impact of the peacekeeping missions-<\/strong> UN Peacekeeping operations have made a positive impact on restoring stability<\/span>, enabling the<\/span> transition to democratic governance<\/span>, and fostering economic development<\/span>.<\/p>\n

3. Noble Prize-<\/strong> UN Peacekeeping Forces was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1988 for their continuous striving towards peace and stability.<\/p>\n

1. Failure in Rwanda and Bosnia-<\/strong> In 1994 and 1995, the UN failed to protect civilians, leading to mass casualties, such as the Rwanda genocide<\/span>, where nearly 1 million Tutsis were killed.<\/p>\n

\na. India is Fifth largest troop contributor<\/span> with 5,424 personnel<\/span> across 9 missions<\/span>. India\u2019s contribution to the peacekeeping budget stands at 0.16%.

\na. A total of 150 Indian peacekeepers serving with the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have received medals of honour<\/span> for their dedicated service and sacrifice.

1. Clear and achievable Mandates-<\/strong> Mandates should focus on realistic, achievable goals that align with available resources and ground realities. For ex-<\/strong> Protecting civilians in clearly demarcated zones<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2. Improved Funding and Resource Allocation-<\/strong> Member states should consider establishing more predictable<\/span>, and sustainable funding mechanisms<\/span> for peacekeeping missions. For ex-<\/strong> For missions like MINUSMA in Mali<\/span>, access to better surveillance technology and transportation could improve peacekeepers’ mobility and safety in high-risk areas.<\/p>\n

3. Strengthening Relationships with Local Communities-<\/strong> Building trust within communities through programs focused on local needs like healthcare<\/span>, education<\/span>\u00a0can help establish peacekeepers as allies rather than foreign entities.<\/p>\n
