K. Singh, Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan\u00a0or KUSUM scheme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The components of the scheme include<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Building 10,000 MW solar plants on barren lands<\/li>\n<li>Providing sops to DISCOMS to purchase the electricity produced<\/li>\n<li>Solarising\u2019 existing pumps of 7250 MW as well as government tube wells with a capacity of 8250 MW<\/li>\n<li>Distributing 17.5 lakh solar pumps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Share of subsidy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>The 60% <strong>subsidy on the solar pumps<\/strong> provided to farmers will be <strong>shared between the Centre and the States<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>30% would be provided through <strong>bank loans<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>10% will be borne by the <strong>farmers<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Expected benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scheme would <strong>provide extra income to farmers<\/strong>, by giving them an option to sell additional power to the grid through solar power projects set up on their barren lands<\/li>\n<li>Help in <strong>de-dieselising<\/strong> the sector as also the DISCOMS<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of decentralised solar power production<\/li>\n<li>Reduction of transmission losses<\/li>\n<li>Providing support to the financial health of DISCOMs by reducing the subsidy burden to the agriculture sector<\/li>\n<li>The scheme would also promote <strong>energy efficiency<\/strong> and water conservation and provide water security to farmers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Centre\u2019s plan may boost farmers\u2019 solar power use Context The Centre has announced a Rs1.4 lakh-crore scheme for promoting decentralized solar power production of up to 28,250 MW to help farmers, according to R.
