Genesis<\/strong><\/td>\n1.<\/strong> It builds upon the DRDO’s Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) programme<\/a> which successfully tested a Mach 6 scramjet in 2019 & 2020.
\n2.<\/strong> This test showcased the scramjet engine technology<\/span>. In a scramjet engine, air enters at supersonic speeds and exits at hypersonic speeds.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\n3. Mid-Flight Maneuverability-<\/strong> Merges the speed of a ballistic missile with the agility like Mid-Flight movements of a cruise missile to bypass defenses.
\n4. Advanced Tracking –<\/strong>\u00a0Utilizes advanced multi-domain monitoring systems for precise targeting.
\n5. Multi-Payload Capability –<\/strong>\u00a0Capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Applications<\/strong><\/td>\nUses across the Army, Navy, and<\/span> Air Force<\/span>; the naval version (which is in developmental stage) is designed to precisely target and destroy enemy warships at long distances.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What are Hypersonic Missiles?<\/h2>\n

1.<\/strong> These missiles can fly at speeds of at least Mach 5<\/span> (five times the speed of sound).
\n2.<\/strong> A key feature<\/span> of hypersonic missiles is their Mid-Flight maneuverability<\/span><\/strong>, unlike ballistic missiles that follow a fixed path.
\n3.<\/strong> There are two types of hypersonic weapons<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

a. Hypersonic Glide Vehicles (HGVs):<\/strong> Launched by a rocket and then glide to the target.
\nb. Hypersonic Cruise Missiles (HCMs)<\/strong>: Powered by air-breathing engines or “scramjets” after locking onto the target.<\/p>\n
