{"id":317679,"date":"2024-11-28T18:58:52","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T13:28:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=317679"},"modified":"2024-11-30T11:23:34","modified_gmt":"2024-11-30T05:53:34","slug":"lothal-harrapan-port-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/lothal-harrapan-port-town\/","title":{"rendered":"Lothal- Harrapan Port Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News<\/strong>: An IIT Delhi student recently lost her life while conducting research near the archaeological site of Lothal in Gujarat.<\/p>\n<h2>About Lothal<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> It was one of the southernmost sites of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indus-valley-civilization-important-aspects-and-new-developments\/#:~:text=Ancient%20urban%20settlements%20of%20Indus,which%20was%20a%20topographic%20low.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indus Valley civilization (IVC)<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Its archaeological remains is located along the <strong><em>Bhogava river<\/em><\/strong>, a <em><strong>tributary of Sabarmati<\/strong><\/em>, in the <em><strong>Gulf of Khambat<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> The site offers evidence of Harappan culture dating back to the period between<strong> 2400 BCE<\/strong> and <em><strong>1600 BCE<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> The excavated site of Lothal is the <em><strong>only port-town of the Indus Valley Civilisation<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Discovery<\/strong>&#8211; Lothal was discovered by <em><strong>SR Rao,<\/strong><\/em> an Indian archaeologist. Excavation work was carried out in Lothal between February 1955 and May 1960.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.
