This could lead to penalties for violating CAFE norms.<\/p>\n<h2>About Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) norms<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. Aim<\/strong>&#8211; Their goal is to <strong><em>improve vehicle fuel efficiency by reducing CO\u2082 emissions<\/em><\/strong>, achieving both lower oil dependency and better pollution control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Applicability<\/strong>-These norms apply to <em><strong>petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG, hybrid<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>electric passenger vehicles<\/strong><\/em> with a gross weight under 3,500 kg.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Launch in India<\/strong>&#8211; CAFE norms were first notified by the Government in 2017, under the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/explained-the-energy-conservation-amendment-bill-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Energy Conservation Act, 2001<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>&#8211; Corporate Average refers to sales-volume weighted average for every auto manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Implementation<\/strong>-The standards were introduced in two phases: <em><strong>Stage I<\/strong><\/em> began in 2017\u201318 with a <em><strong>CO\u2082 limit of 130 g\/km until 2022<\/strong><\/em>, and<em><strong> Stage II<\/strong> <\/em>started in 2022\u201323 with a <em><strong>CO\u2082 limit of 113 g\/km.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>5.
