{"id":31774,"date":"2018-10-29T11:11:04","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T05:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31774"},"modified":"2018-10-29T11:11:04","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T05:41:04","slug":"udan-to-link-73-airports-helipads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/udan-to-link-73-airports-helipads\/","title":{"rendered":"UDAN to link 73 airports, helipads\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/Industry\/udan-2-to-link-73-airports-helipads\/article22514633.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UDAN to link 73 airports, helipads<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Centre on Wednesday said 73 underserved and unserved airports and helipads would be connected under the phase 2 of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">regional connectivity scheme UDAN.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Target:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme will provide around 26.5 lakh seats per annum that will be covered with [an] airfare cap of \u20b92,500\/hr of flying.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In addition, around two lakh RCS (regional connectivity scheme) seats per annum are expected to be provided through helicopter operations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The States with maximum number of airports and helipads which will see activation under UDAN 2 scheme include Uttarakhand (15), Uttar Pradesh (9), Arunachal Pradesh (8), Himachal Pradesh (6), Assam (5) and Manipur (5).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Some of the cities that would now be connected include Kargil, Darbhanga, Kasauli, Bokaro, Dumka, Hubli, Kannur and Pakyong, among others.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was the first time bids were received from helicopter operators under the scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Viability gap funding<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These proposals would required a viability gap funding (VGF) of \u20b9487 crore per annum for fixed wing operations and \u20b9130 crore per annum for helicopter operations in the priority areas \u2014 which include the north-eastern and hill States,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Centre decided not to increase the \u20b95,000 regional air connectivity levy charged from airlines flying on major routes to fund the UDAN scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Regional connectivity scheme UDAN.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UDAN-RCS, UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) is a regional airport development and &#8220;Regional Connectivity Scheme&#8221; (RCS) of Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Objective:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Making air travel affordable and widespread,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To boost inclusive national economic development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job growth and air transport infrastructure development of all regions and states of India<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Components:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme has two components.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The First component is to develop new and enhance the existing regional airports to increase the number of operational airports for the scheduled civilian flights from 70 (in May 2016, total 98 operational including army airports) to at least 150 airports (by December 2018) with regular scheduled flights.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Second component is to add several hundred financially-viable capped-airfare new regional flight routes to connect more than 100 underserved and unserved airports in smaller towns with each other as well as with well served airports in bigger cities by using &#8220;Viability Gap Funding&#8221; (VGF) where needed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UDAN to link 73 airports, helipads\u00a0 Context: The Centre on Wednesday said 73 underserved and unserved airports and helipads would be connected under the phase 2 of the regional connectivity scheme UDAN.
