Ratapani is now the state&#8217;s eighth tiger reserve. <strong>Ratapani Tiger Reserve<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>About Ratapani Tiger Reserve<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>&#8211; It is situated in the Vindhyachal Mountain Ranges across Raisen and Sehore districts of Madhya Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin<\/strong>: It was first declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1976, extended in 1983, and received approval from the NTCA to become a tiger reserve in 2008.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rivers-<\/strong> It runs parallel on the northern side of the <strong><em>Narmada River<\/em><\/strong>. The<strong><em> Kolar River forms the western boundary<\/em><\/strong> of the Sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation<\/strong>&#8211; Dry deciduous and moist deciduous type<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>&#8211; Teak (<strong><em>55 percent of area is covered by teak<\/em><\/strong>), Bamboo etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>&#8211; Tiger,leopard,<strong><em>Chinkara<\/em><\/strong>, sloth bear, hyena, spotted deer, sambar deer, <strong><em>paradise flycatcher<\/em><\/strong> (the state bird of Madhya Pradesh) among others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance<\/strong>&#8211; The Sanctuary has <strong><em>Bhimbetka<\/em><\/strong>, a group of rock shelters and rock paintings, which is one of the &#8221; <strong><em>World Heritage Site<\/em><\/strong> &#8221; declared by UNESCO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About Tiger Reserves of India<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_318330\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-318330\" style=\"width: 539px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-318330\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tiger-Reserve-in-India.png?resize=539%2C560&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Tiger Reserve in India\" width=\"539\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tiger-Reserve-in-India.png?w=616&amp;ssl=1 616w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tiger-Reserve-in-India.png?resize=289%2C300&amp;ssl=1 289w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-318330\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source- NTCA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The tiger reserves in India were <strong><em>established under <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/tiger-conservation-in-india-explained-pointwise\/#:~:text=Project%20Tiger%20was%20launched%20in,unfettered%20hunting%20and%20habitat%20loss.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Project Tiger<\/em><\/a>, launched in 1973.<\/li>\n<li>They are administered by the <strong><em>National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA)<\/em><\/strong> of the Government of India.<\/li>\n<li>As of December 2024, there are 57 protected areas that have been designated as tiger reserves.<\/li>\n<li>Tiger reserves <strong><em>consist of a core area<\/em><\/strong>, which includes parts of protected areas like national parks or wildlife sanctuaries, <strong><em>and a buffer zone<\/em><\/strong>, which is a combination of forested and non-forested land.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>State governments notify areas as tiger reserves<\/em><\/strong> based on the NTCA&#8217;s recommendations.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong><em>tiger reserve designation enables the state to receive funding from the NTCA. <\/em><\/strong>It will ensure better management and conservation efforts for wildlife.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Madhya Pradesh government has officially notified the Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve.
