{"id":31840,"date":"2018-10-29T11:30:43","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T06:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=31840"},"modified":"2018-10-29T11:30:43","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T06:00:43","slug":"fourth-tiger-estimation-begins-in-ap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/fourth-tiger-estimation-begins-in-ap\/","title":{"rendered":"Fourth tiger estimation begins in AP\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/cities\/Visakhapatnam\/fourth-tiger-estimation-begins-in-ap\/article22493002.ece\"><b>Fourth tiger estimation begins in AP<\/b><\/a><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fourth All-India Tiger estimation began in the <\/span><b>Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) on 22<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> January 2018<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is the method used in the survey<\/b><b>?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An app, named, <\/span><b>Monitoring System for Tigers-Intensive Protection and Ecological Status (M-StrIPES)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is being used for the tiger estimation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new app is used for the carnivore sign survey and transect marking to record details such as pellet density, vegetation status etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How is the new method better than the previous method<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new app is being used to avoid human error involved in the traditional recording system of pugmarks and other signs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously, data was collected manually in the pro forma on paper, which is prone to human errors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, the new estimation is being done in grids of 2 sq.km each, unlike in 4 sq.km grids done earlier.
