They will be granted certificates if they pass<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Significance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It would open an additional choice for people who want to earn degrees, certificates or diplomas, but cannot enrol for regular courses<\/li>\n<li>While existent distance learning courses were subject to territorial jurisdictions of the universities concerned, the very nature of online education would mean freeing up these courses from such constraints<\/li>\n<li>Online education would help improve Gross enrolment ratio figures in higher education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is GER?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in Higher education in India is calculated for 18-23 years of age group. Total enrolment in higher education, regardless of age, expressed as a percentage to the eligible official population (18-23 years) in a given school year<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The GER is widely used to show the general level of participation in and capacity of higher education.
