Chandrababu Naidu, reaffirmed the government&#8217;s commitment to establishing a Telugu University named after Potti Sriramulu.<\/p>\n<h2>About Potti Sriramulu<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_319968\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-319968\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-319968\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Potti-Sriramulu.png?resize=225%2C257&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Potti Sriramulu\" width=\"225\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Potti-Sriramulu.png?w=431&amp;ssl=1 431w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Potti-Sriramulu.png?resize=263%2C300&amp;ssl=1 263w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-319968\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source- Indianculture.gov.in<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>He was an <em>Indian freedom fighter<\/em> known for his pivotal role in the creation of Andhra State.<\/li>\n<li>He was bestowed with the title &#8216;<em>Amarajeevi<\/em>&#8216; for his supreme sacrifice for the cause of the people of Andhra.<\/li>\n<li>He was born on March 16, 1901, in the Madras Presidency, now part of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li>He is remembered for his <em>commitment to social justice<\/em> and the<em> upliftment of Dalits.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Freedom struggle contribution:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He was <em>inspired by Mahatma Gandhi<\/em> to join the freedom struggle.<\/li>\n<li>He was actively participated in significant movements like the <em>Non-Cooperation Movement<\/em> (1920-1922),<em> Salt Satyagraha<\/em> (1930), and <em>Individual Satyagraha<\/em> (1941-42).<\/li>\n<li>He was arrested by the British during the <em>Quit India Movement in 1942<\/em> and jailed along with Gandhiji.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Post independence<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>He began a hunger strike on October 19, 1952, demanding Andhra Pradesh&#8217;s formation from the Madras Presidency.<\/li>\n<li>After 58 days of fasting, he died on December 15, 1952, in Mylapore.<\/li>\n<li>His sacrifice led to the announcement of Andhra Pradesh on December 19, 1952, with statehood granted on November 1, 1956.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Socio-religious activities:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He was involved in the village reconstruction programmes at Rajkot in Gujarat.<\/li>\n<li>He also <em>joined Gandhi ashram<\/em> (established by Yerneni Subrahmanyam) in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li>He undertook three fasts to support Dalit (Harijan) entry rights to holy places including Venu Gopala Swamy Temple in Moolapeta, and Nellore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N.
