{"id":32058,"date":"2018-10-29T12:28:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T06:58:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=32058"},"modified":"2018-10-29T12:28:01","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T06:58:01","slug":"inflation-quickens-to-5-21-on-food-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/inflation-quickens-to-5-21-on-food-costs\/","title":{"rendered":"Inflation quickens to 5.21% on food costs\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/Economy\/inflation-quickens-to-521-on-food-costs\/article22431723.ece\"><strong>Inflation quickens to 5.21% on food costs<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>December retail inflation hits 17-month high<\/p>\n<p><strong>What<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index accelerated to a 17-month high of 5.21% in December, from November\u2019s 4.88% as food, housing and fuel costs continued to strengthen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RBI Response<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Economists said quickening retail inflation would likely lead the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to retain its cautious monetary stance.<\/p>\n<p>The present indications are that the RBI will go for long pause in its rate policy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Factors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inflation is being largely driven by housing and vegetables<\/li>\n<li>Out of these two, vegetables are a seasonal effect and housing has a large weightage in the index<\/li>\n<li>A more sustained influence is that of rising fuel prices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Housing segment inflation accelerates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The housing segment saw inflation accelerate for the sixth straight month in December to 8.25%, from 7.36% in Novembe<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inflation in food and beverages segment increased<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inflation in the food and beverages segment quickened to 4.85%, from 4.41%<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inflation in vegetables segment the fastest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within this, inflation in the vegetables segment touched 29.1%, the fastest pace of gains among all items in the food groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Easing inflation in clothing and footwear<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inflation in the clothing and footwear segment eased in December to 4.8%, from 5.04% in the previous month<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inflation quickens to 5.21% on food costs\u00a0 Context December retail inflation hits 17-month high What Inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index accelerated to a 17-month high of 5.21% in December, from November\u2019s 4.88% as food, housing and fuel costs continued to strengthen.
