{"id":324011,"date":"2025-01-21T14:31:50","date_gmt":"2025-01-21T09:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=324011"},"modified":"2025-01-21T14:41:08","modified_gmt":"2025-01-21T09:11:08","slug":"bharathapuzha-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/bharathapuzha-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Bharathapuzha River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News<\/strong>: Recently, a family of four drowned in the Bharathapuzha River.<\/p>\n<h2>About Bharathapuzha River<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Length of the river<\/strong>&#8211; 209 km<\/li>\n<li>It is the <em>second-longest river in Kerala<\/em>, after the Periyar River.<\/li>\n<li>It is considered as the <em>Nile of kerela<\/em> and is also known as Nila, Ponnani, Kuttippuram .<\/li>\n<li><strong>Course and Origin<\/strong>&#8211; The river rises in the <em>Anaimalai Hills of Tamil Nadu<\/em>, flows westward through the Palakkad Gap in the Western Ghats, and finally empties into the Arabian Sea.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Major Tributaries<\/strong>: Kannadipuzha, Kalpathipuzha, Gayathripuzha, and Thuthapuzha.<\/li>\n<li>Out of the total drainage area, two-thirds, which is 4400 sq.km., is in Kerala, and the remaining 1786 sq.km. is in Tamil Nadu.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reservoirs and Dams<\/strong>: The<em> Malampuzha Dam<\/em>, constructed across the river, is the largest reservoir in Kerala and is utilized for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cultural Significance<\/strong>&#8211; Kerala Kalamandalam, a renowned center for Indian performing arts like <em>Kathakali, Koodiyattam, and Ottamthullal<\/em>, is located at Cheruthuruty on the banks of the Bharathapuzha River in Thrissur district.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Recently, a family of four drowned in the Bharathapuzha River.
