{"id":32466,"date":"2018-10-29T14:54:25","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T09:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=32466"},"modified":"2018-10-29T14:54:25","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T09:24:25","slug":"sbi-gets-board-nod-to-raise-8000-crore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sbi-gets-board-nod-to-raise-8000-crore\/","title":{"rendered":"SBI gets board nod to raise 8000 crore\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/sbi-gets-board-nod-to-raise-8000-crore\/article22288477.ece\"><strong>SBI gets board nod to raise 8000 crore<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Context <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s largest lender SBI on Wednesday said its board had approved raising \u20b98,000 crore through various sources, including masala bonds, to meet Basel III capital norms<\/p>\n<p><strong>Masala bonds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Masala bonds are rupee- denominated specialised debt instruments that can be floated in overseas markets only to raise capital.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time duration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>State Bank of India (SBI) said it had time till March 2018 to raise the funds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Basel III norms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Banks in India have to comply with the global capital norms under Basel III by March 2019, three months later than the internationally-agreed time frame, by January 2019<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basel III is an internationally agreed set of measures developed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in response to the financial crisis of 2007-09. The measures aim to strengthen the regulation, supervision and risk management of banks<\/li>\n<li>Like all Basel Committee standards, Basel III standards are minimum requirements which apply to internationally active banks.
