{"id":32486,"date":"2018-10-29T15:00:26","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T09:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=32486"},"modified":"2018-11-19T15:09:28","modified_gmt":"2018-11-19T09:39:28","slug":"sc-moves-to-make-festivals-less-noisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sc-moves-to-make-festivals-less-noisy\/","title":{"rendered":"SC moves to make festivals less noisy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/supreme-court-moves-to-make-festivals-less-noisy\/article25304684.ece\">SC moves to make festivals less noisy<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The Supreme Court (SC) has imposed conditions for the use and sale of firecrackers in the upcoming Diwali, Christmas and New year eve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>A two-member bench held that only green or improved crackers would be used during religious festivals and other occasions, including weddings.<\/li>\n<li>The \u201cgreen crackers\u201d are the ones which have low emission and permissible sound limits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>About the SC partial ban: <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fixed time slots: <\/strong>The reduced time window is applicable across the country.<\/li>\n<li>The judgment reduced the time for bursting crackers during Deepavali and other festivals to two hours: between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>For Christmas and New Year, the time slot allowed is just half-an-hour, between 11.55 p.m. and half-past midnight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Licenced traders: <\/strong>SC restricted the sale of green and improved crackers only through licensed traders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Banned sale via online sites: <\/strong>Any e-commerce company found selling crackers online will be held for contempt of court, and the court may also impose monetary penalties in that eventuality.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community engagement: <\/strong>It also directed the Centre to encourage community cracker bursting during Diwali and other festivals in Delhi-NCR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29241\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/less.jpg?resize=453%2C344&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"453\" height=\"344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/less.jpg?w=453&amp;ssl=1 453w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/less.jpg?resize=150%2C114&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/less.jpg?resize=300%2C228&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 453px) 100vw, 453px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong> Significance of the ban: <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Right balance:<\/strong> The Supreme Court has struck a balance between the interests of the firecracker industry and the right to public health by allowing the manufacture and sale of only \u201cgreen\u201d and reduced-emission or \u201cimproved\u201d crackers, while banning those that are loud and toxic to man, animal and the environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong> Background:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u25cf The ban came on the basis of a petition filed by two infants\u00a0 through their fathers in 2015.
