{"id":32670,"date":"2018-10-29T15:54:03","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T10:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=32670"},"modified":"2018-10-29T15:54:03","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T10:24:03","slug":"farewell-to-south-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/farewell-to-south-asia\/","title":{"rendered":"Farewell to South Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/opinion\/columns\/saarc-countries-india-pakistan-relations-5396307\/\"><strong>Farewell to South Asia<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>India needs to reimagine its economic and political geography in the backdrop of deepening crisis in South Asia region.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Recent developments during United Nations General Assembly suggests the deepening crisis in South Asia region.<\/li>\n<li>In the backdrop of functioning of SAARC and challenges deepen into South Asia region, India must find alternatives beyond geographical and political boundaries of South Asia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Challenges in front of South Asia:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Instability in SAARC functioning and deteriorated relation between India and Pakistan.<\/li>\n<li>Lack of India\u2019s interest to involve in constructive dialogue with Pakistan unless Islamabad addresses its concerns on cross-border terrorism.<\/li>\n<li>Pakistan has also pulled off from regional connectivity agreement at Kathmandu SAARC Summit in 2014.<\/li>\n<li>Pakistan\u2019s resistance to engage with India on Commercial front but deeply committed to comprehensive economic integration with China.<\/li>\n<li>Apart from India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are also having problems with Pakistan.<\/li>\n<li>Nepal too wants to \u201cescape\u201d from South Asia into the vast folds of the Chinese arms.<\/li>\n<li>India may oppose the increasing influence of China, whose Belt and Road Initiative is connecting different parts of South Asia to the adjoining provinces of China<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Alternative to India in the backdrop of SAARC:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Focus on the so-called BBIN forum that brings together four countries of South Asia \u2014 Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal<\/li>\n<li>Reactivate the BIMSTEC forum that brings the BBIN countries as well as Sri Lanka with Myanmar and Thailand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>\u201cPolitical South Asia\u201d was an invention of the 1980s and it has not survived the test of time.<\/li>\n<li>India need not worry about failures of SAARC and passing away from South Asia.
