{"id":32671,"date":"2018-10-29T15:54:25","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T10:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=32671"},"modified":"2018-10-29T15:54:25","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T10:24:25","slug":"china-revises-controversial-anti-terror-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/china-revises-controversial-anti-terror-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"China revises controversial anti-terror regulations\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/china-revises-controversial-anti-terror-regulations\/article25183931.ece\">China revises controversial anti-terror regulations<\/a><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>China&#8217;s Government revises <strong>anti-terrorism regulation<\/strong> by establishing vocational education centers to carry out the educational transformation of people who have been influenced by extremism.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>It is believed millions of people have been detained in extrajudicial detention centers in Xinjiang for religious extremism, separatism and terrorism.<\/li>\n<li>The detentions have mostly focused on the region\u2019s Muslim minorities, especially the <strong><em>Uighurs, a Turkic ethnic group.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Background of Anti-Terrorism law:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>In Dec 2015 China has passed controversial new anti-terrorism laws, saying they are needed to combat growing threats and has created a new anti-terror agency and security forces with significant powers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Criticism against the Law<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Human rights groups say the laws are too broad and sweeping, and could be used to crackdown on dissidents as well as religious minorities.<\/li>\n<li>Amnesty International said in March, while the laws were still being drafted, that they have no safeguard to prevent those practicing their religion or criticise the government from being &#8220;persecuted on broad charges related to &#8216;terrorism&#8217; or &#8216;extremism.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Human Rights Watch also said the laws are not in line with international standards, and pointed out that the new agencies would have &#8220;enormous discretionary powers&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>China has repeatedly said that it faces legitimate terror threats and that the laws are needed to combat them.
