It is part of the <strong>Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Established:<\/strong> 1988 (Declared a Tiger Reserve)<\/li>\n<li>It is situated in the <strong>Western Ghats<\/strong>, one of the world\u2019s eight &#8220;hottest hotspots&#8221; of biodiversity.<\/li>\n<li>It features <strong>diverse landscapes<\/strong> including dense forests, grasslands, and riverine ecosystems.<\/li>\n<li>It receives <strong>high rainfall<\/strong>, leading to rich vegetation and a thriving ecosystem.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation: <\/strong>It includes <strong>tropical evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests, dry deciduous forests and grasslands<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora:<\/strong> The reserve&#8217;s vegetation ranges from thorny shrub jungles to dense evergreen forests. A total of 448 endemic angiosperm species and 161 fern species have been documented.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Big Cats:<\/strong> Bengal Tiger, Leopard<\/li>\n<li><strong>Herbivores:<\/strong> Indian Gaur, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Nilgiri Tahr<\/li>\n<li><strong>Primates:<\/strong> Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Bonnet Macaque<\/li>\n<li><strong>Birds:<\/strong> Great Hornbill, Malabar Pied Hornbill, and various endemic species<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reptiles:<\/strong> King Cobra, Indian Rock Python<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amphibians:<\/strong> Numerous rare and endemic frog species<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Significance &amp; Conservation<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>It is part of the <strong>Project Tiger initiative<\/strong> for the protection of Bengal Tigers.
