The Gangetic plains <\/strong>support mango and vegetable cultivation, while Bundelkhand <\/strong>suits drought-resistant <\/strong>crops. These natural advantages, combined with abundant water resources<\/strong>, position UP as a horticultural powerhouse.<\/p>\n

To harness this immense potential, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has implemented a comprehensive set of facilities <\/strong>and initiatives <\/strong>across various dimensions of horticultural development, such as:<\/p>\n

  1. a) Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) <\/strong>as an umbrella scheme <\/strong>for various horticulture programs, providing additional state funding with 50% subsidies <\/strong>for inputs. b) Enhanced irrigation support <\/strong>is available through micro-irrigation <\/strong>schemes (Per Drop More Crop), with supplementary state subsidies <\/strong>reaching 90% for small and marginal farmers growing horticultural crops.<\/li>\n
  2. a) Integrated cold chain <\/strong>projects receive subsidies <\/strong>ranging from 35-50% for establishing cold storage infrastructure under the Uttar Pradesh Food Processing Industry Policy 2023<\/strong>; b) financial assistance for food processing units <\/strong>through schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana <\/strong>specifically for processing horticultural produce.<\/li>\n
  3. a) Post-harvest management <\/strong>receives special attention with support for pack houses, ripening chambers, <\/strong>and transportation <\/strong>facilities; b) Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) <\/strong>operate as a network of agricultural extension centers <\/strong>providing technical knowledge and training on modern horticulture practices; c) Model Demonstration Farms<\/strong> have been established across several districts to showcase improved varieties <\/strong>and cultivation techniques.<\/li>\n
  4. a)Market linkage <\/strong>has been enhanced through the promotion and support <\/strong>of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) for collective farming and marketing<\/strong>; b) The state has integrated horticultural markets <\/strong>with the electronic National Agriculture Market platform (e-NAM); <\/strong>c) established Kisan Mandis <\/strong>as designated markets for direct farmer-to-consumer <\/strong>sales of horticultural produce.<\/li>\n

Several special initiatives <\/strong>further boost the sector a) One District One Product (ODOP) <\/strong>program, which features several horticultural products among its focus areas <\/strong>such as specific varieties of mangoes, vegetables, and medicinal plants; b) cluster development approach <\/strong>focusing on specific horticultural crops in identified areas with natural advantages c) Mango export facilitation <\/strong>initiatives target regions like Malihabad, <\/strong>known for Dussehri mangoes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
