Heatwaves are then declared based on <strong>daily maximum temperature data<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A heatwave is declared by the <strong>India Meteorological Department (IMD)<\/strong> when:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Plains:<\/strong> Maximum temperature reaches <strong>40\u00b0C or more<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hilly regions:<\/strong> Maximum temperature reaches <strong>30\u00b0C or more<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coastal areas:<\/strong> Temperature departure is <strong>4.5\u00b0C or more from normal<\/strong>, and the actual maximum temperature is <strong>37\u00b0C or more<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Heatwave vs. Severe Heatwave<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Based on departure from the normal temperature<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Heatwave<strong>:<\/strong> When temperature departure is <strong>4.5\u00b0C to 6.4\u00b0C<\/strong> from normal.<\/li>\n<li>Severe heatwave<strong>:<\/strong> When departure is <strong>more than 6.4\u00b0C<\/strong> from normal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Based on actual maximum temperature:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Heatwave: <strong>Above 45\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Severe heatwave: <strong>Above 47\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>A heatwave is declared if the above conditions persist for <strong>at least two consecutive days<\/strong> in two or more stations of a <strong>meteorological sub-division<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a high likelihood of heatwave conditions in isolated areas of Odisha from March 13-17, Jharkhand from March 14-17, and Gangetic West Bengal from March 15-17.
