Its forest forms <\/span><b>part of the Nilambur Elephant Reserve<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Nilambur ER), <\/span><b>one of the four ERs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> notified in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Vegetation type: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctuary is the <\/span><b>state\u2019s only forest stretch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where <\/span><b>seven forest types found<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the state are all present, including evergreen rainforest, semi-evergreen forest, moist deciduous forest, sub-tropical hill forest, sub-tropical savannah, montane wet temperate forest and montane wet grasslands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Malabar Mahseer (Tor malabaricus), one of the endangered fishes in the world. Slender Loris, Nilgiri Tahr, Tiger, Lion tailed macaque, Gaur, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Tribes:<\/b> <b>Cholanaikans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group PVTG) &#8211; with a total population of 217 individuals in 56 families, depends on the forests for their livelihood by selling the Non-wood Forest Produce (NWFP).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News&#8211; A recent faunal survey has reported 63 new species of odonates, butterflies and birds in the Karimpuzha Wildlife Sanctuary of Kerala.
