(The other is the <strong>kinkajou<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution and habitat: <\/strong>They prefer <strong>tropical rainforests<\/strong> and <strong>dense forest cover<\/strong>. They are found in wide range from <strong>northeast India to Southeast Asia.<\/strong> In India, they have been recorded in <strong>Assam&#8217;s<\/strong> <strong>Manas National Park<\/strong> and also in <strong>Kaziranga National Park<\/strong> in <strong>2024<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ecological significance:<\/strong> They play a vital role in<strong> forest regeneration<\/strong>, aiding in <strong>seed dispersal<\/strong> and supporting the <strong>survival<\/strong> of many other species.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conservation:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IUCN status &#8211; Vulnerable<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CITES &#8211; Appendix III<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule I<\/strong> of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>World Binturong Day<\/strong> is held <strong>every second Saturday of May.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Rare Binturong spotted by the Wildlife Trust of India\u2019s Garo Green Spine project team in the Narang Wari Village Reserve Forest (VRF) in Meghalaya\u2019s Garo Hills.
