Later, it was converted into a <strong>tiger reserve<\/strong> under Project Tiger in <strong>1973 <\/strong>and declared <strong>a National Park in 1974. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Rivers<\/strong>: It is flanked by the <strong>Kabini River<\/strong> in the north and the <strong>Moyar<\/strong> in the south. The <strong>Nagu River<\/strong> runs through the park.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Climate and Vegetation:<\/strong> It has <strong>typical tropical climate<\/strong> with distinct wet and dry seasons. The park has a variety of biomes including <strong>dry deciduous forests, moist deciduous forests and shrub-lands.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve<\/strong>: Park is the part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve making it largest protected area in Southern India and largest habitant of Wild Elephants in South Asia.\n<ul>\n<li>It shares its <strong>boundary with 3 other National Parks<\/strong> namely <strong>Nagarahole National Park (Karnataka), Wayanad National Park (Kerala) and Mudumalai National Park (Tamil Nadu).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>: A wide range of timber trees including <strong>teak, rosewood, sandalwood, Indian-laurel, Indian Kino tree, giant clumping bamboo<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>: <strong>Tigers<\/strong> (hosts <strong>second highest Tiger population<\/strong> in India), Leopard, Dhole, Sambar, Sloth bear, Chital and Blue Peafowl.\n<ul>\n<li>It is one of the <strong>last refuges of the endangered Asiatic wild elephant<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: &#8216;Save Bandipur&#8216; protest launched as Karnataka thinks of lifting night traffic ban.
