{"id":33331,"date":"2018-10-30T11:52:41","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T06:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=33331"},"modified":"2018-10-30T11:52:41","modified_gmt":"2018-10-30T06:22:41","slug":"manipur-beefs-up-security-along-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/manipur-beefs-up-security-along-border\/","title":{"rendered":"Manipur\u00a0beefs\u00a0up security\u00a0along\u00a0border:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/tp-otherstates\/manipur-beefs-up-security-along-border\/article21456816.ece\">Manipur\u00a0beefs\u00a0up security\u00a0along\u00a0border<\/a>: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Context <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following directives from the Union Home Ministry, the Manipur government has beefed up security measures along border areas to check infiltration of illegal migrants from Bangladesh and the Rohingya from Myanmar<\/p>\n<p><strong>New police stations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Manipur government have opened a police station at Kotha, near the Manipur-Myanmar border<\/li>\n<li>New police stations have been opened at Behang bordering Mizoram, Jessami bordering Nagaland and Borobekra bordering Assam<\/li>\n<li>Additional police personnel have been rushed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bridges demolished<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Six bamboo bridges across the Jiri river bordering Assam were demolished by the police in order to prevent illegal migrants from Assam from crossing over<\/p>\n<p><strong>Demand for ILP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of late students and women activists in the State have been rounding up undocumented persons who were later handed over to the police. Locals have been agitating for years for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur to regulate the entry and stay of outsiders<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is in force in <strong>Arunachal Pradesh<\/strong>, <strong>Mizoram<\/strong> and <strong>Nagaland<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The President had declined to sign one Bill passed by the Assembly while the Centre did not consider two others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bill to be tabled soon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chief Minister said a committee will soon be set up to draft a Bill on the ILP system which should be acceptable to all communities in Manipur.
