It <strong>dilates arteries<\/strong> easing the flow of blood and improves immunity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), <\/strong>the fundamental currency of energy for cells, is part-constituted of nitrogen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DNA <\/strong>(deoxyribonuclease), the blueprint of life, are made up of <strong>four nitrogenous bases.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nitrogen Cycle: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Animals, humans and plants are <strong>inept<\/strong> at extracting nitrogen from the air they breathe.<\/li>\n<li>Some plants can form an alliance with certain ancient bacteria and archaea called \u2018<strong>diazotrophs\u2019.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>20,000 species of plants of the <strong>family Leguminosae<\/strong> \u2013 which include beans, chickpeas, lentils, soybeans, and peanuts &#8211; have <strong>symbiotic relationship<\/strong> between diazotrophs and them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nitrification<\/strong> is the process by which <strong>bacteria<\/strong> <strong>turn the ammonia and ammonium into nitrites and nitrate<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lightning strikes<\/strong> are the other way that <strong>atmospheric nitrogen can be broken down to nitric acid<\/strong> \u2013 another natural source of nitrogen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Denitrification<\/strong> &#8211; A large ecosystem of microbes <strong>convert the unused nitrates back to nitrogen<\/strong>, called denitrification and the <strong>cycle continues<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Artificial addition of nitrogen<\/strong> &#8211; Through <strong>fertilizers<\/strong> and <strong>&#8216;saltpetre&#8217;<\/strong> &#8211; animal and bird <strong>excrement<\/strong>, crushed animal <strong>bones<\/strong>, being rich sources of nitrate.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Haber-Bosch process<\/strong> &#8211; a way to <strong>manufacture ammonia<\/strong> on <strong>an industrial scale<\/strong> with help of an iron catalyst.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Additionaly, <\/strong>composting, manuring, and crop rotation employed to keep nitrification and denitrification going on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Imbalanced Nitrogen Cycle:<\/strong> So, there is now <strong>too much ammonia and ammonium nitrate<\/strong> fed into the soil since industrialisation era has started.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Ecological Challenges Due to Abundant Nitrogen<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eutrophication<\/strong>: The <strong>ammonium nitrates<\/strong> (water soluble) are washed away during rains and enter into canals and streams, and stimulate algal blooms.
