{"id":334662,"date":"2025-04-28T17:54:37","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T12:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=334662"},"modified":"2025-05-01T13:45:36","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T08:15:36","slug":"united-nations-ocean-conference-unoc3-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/united-nations-ocean-conference-unoc3-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3)-2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News: <\/strong>The 2025 UN Ocean Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of France and Costa Rica, will take place from 9 to 13 June 2025 in Nice, France. <strong>United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3)-2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-335159 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/United-Nations-Ocean-Conference-UNOC3-2025.png?resize=531%2C352&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3)-2025\" width=\"531\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/United-Nations-Ocean-Conference-UNOC3-2025.png?resize=300%2C199&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/United-Nations-Ocean-Conference-UNOC3-2025.png?resize=1024%2C680&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/United-Nations-Ocean-Conference-UNOC3-2025.png?resize=768%2C510&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/United-Nations-Ocean-Conference-UNOC3-2025.png?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>About United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3)-2025<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Host: <\/strong>It will be co-hosted by <strong>France and Costa Rica<\/strong> and held in <strong>Nice<\/strong>, France.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Theme: \u201cAccelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim: <\/strong>The Conference <strong>aims<\/strong> to <strong>support further and urgent action to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources<\/strong> for sustainable development and identify further ways and means to support the <strong>implementation of SDG 14 (Life Below Water).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Conference has <strong>three priorities<\/strong> in order to produce an ambitious draft agreement:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Governance:<\/strong> Working towards <strong>completion of<\/strong> <strong>multilateral processes<\/strong> linked to the oceans, to boost ambition for their protection, e.g. implementation of \u2018<strong>Agreement on Marine Biodiversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement);<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Financing:<\/strong> Mobilizing <strong>sources of finance<\/strong> to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development (SDG 14) and support the development of a sustainable <strong>blue economy;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Knowledge sharing:<\/strong> Strengthening and better <strong>disseminating knowledge linked to marine science<\/strong> to enhance policy-making.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expected outcome: <\/strong>The \u201c<strong>Nice Ocean Agreements<\/strong>\u201d can form an <strong>international pact<\/strong> for the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean.<\/li>\n<li>The Conference will build on the <strong>previous UN Ocean Conferences<\/strong>, hosted by <strong>Sweden and Fiji in 2017 in New York<\/strong> and by <strong>Portugal and Kenya in 2022 in Lisbon.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<h2>About Agreement on Marine Biodiversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also known as the \u2018<strong>High Seas Treaty\u2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is an <strong>international treaty<\/strong> under the <strong>United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It <strong>aims<\/strong> to address the growing concerns over the <strong>long-term protection of marine biodiversity in the high seas. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It sets precise <strong>mechanisms for the sustainable use of marine biological diversity <\/strong>through international <strong>cooperation and coordination<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Parties cannot claim or exercise sovereign rights<\/strong> over marine resources derived from the high seas and ensure fair and equitable sharing of benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>India has recently signed the Agreement<\/strong> to be implemented through the <strong>Ministry of Earth Sciences.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The 2025 UN Ocean Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of France and Costa Rica, will take place from 9 to 13 June 2025 in Nice, France.
