\/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Dirang Geothermal Project<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The first geothermal production well has been successfully drilled in <strong>Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Dirang region is located <strong>within a medium to high enthalpy geothermal zone. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>With a temperature gradient of around 115\u00b0C, it is well-suited for efficient and low-impact geothermal drilling.<\/li>\n<li>Funding for the project is <strong>jointly provided by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the Ministry of Science and Earth Sciences,<\/strong> Government of India.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1078\" data-end=\"1196\">The plant uses a <strong data-start=\"1095\" data-end=\"1145\">closed-loop binary Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)<\/strong> process to convert geothermal heat to electricity.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1306\">Advanced <strong data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1257\">geological, structural, and chemical analyses<\/strong> were conducted over two years prior to drilling.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1309\" data-end=\"1454\">Drilling targeted a fault zone between <strong data-start=\"1348\" data-end=\"1388\">quartzite and schist rock formations<\/strong>, ensuring efficient access and minimal environmental disturbance.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1763\">Potential applications of geothermal energy include: <strong data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1802\">Drying of agricultural produce<\/strong> (fruits, nuts, meat), s<strong data-start=\"1828\" data-end=\"1845\">pace heating and c<\/strong><strong data-start=\"1850\" data-end=\"1884\">ontrolled-environment storage<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1887\" data-end=\"2030\">These interventions are expected to significantly <strong data-start=\"1937\" data-end=\"1996\">improve living conditions and agricultural productivity<\/strong> in high-altitude Himalayan areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"2443\" data-end=\"2495\"><strong data-start=\"2447\" data-end=\"2495\">About Geothermal Energy in India\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2499\" data-end=\"2649\">As per the <strong data-start=\"2510\" data-end=\"2546\">Geothermal Atlas of India (2022)<\/strong>, the country has <strong data-start=\"2564\" data-end=\"2597\">381 thermally anomalous sites<\/strong> and a generation potential of around <strong data-start=\"2635\" data-end=\"2648\">10,600 MW<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2652\" data-end=\"2738\">India\u2019s first geothermal project was in <strong data-start=\"2692\" data-end=\"2715\">Manuguru, Telangana<\/strong> (20 kW pilot by SCCL).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2741\" data-end=\"2854\"><strong data-start=\"2741\" data-end=\"2765\">Puga Valley (Ladakh)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2770\" data-end=\"2793\">Khammam (Telangana)<\/strong> also have geothermal projects, though with varying progress.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2857\" data-end=\"2988\">India has international collaborations in geothermal energy with <strong data-start=\"2922\" data-end=\"2933\">Iceland<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2935\" data-end=\"2951\">Saudi
