ADB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>regional development bank<\/strong> established on <strong>19 December 1966.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>ADB is headquartered in <strong>Manila, Philippines<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It aims to <strong>promote social and economic development<\/strong> in Asia.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>assists<\/strong> its members and partners by <strong>providing loans, technical assistance, grants and equity investments<\/strong> to promote social and economic development.<\/li>\n<li>It is an official <strong>United Nations Observer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Members:<\/strong> ADB has <strong>69 members<\/strong>\u2014of which <strong>50 are from within Asia<\/strong> and the <strong>Pacific<\/strong> and <strong>19 outside.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Voting pattern: <\/strong>It was <strong>modeled closely on the World Bank<\/strong> and has a <strong>similar weighted voting system<\/strong>, where votes are distributed in <strong>proportion with members&#8217; capital subscriptions.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>As of 31 December 2020, <strong>Japan and the United States<\/strong> each hold the <strong>largest<\/strong> proportion of shares at <strong>15.571%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>China<\/strong> holds 6.429%, <strong>India<\/strong> holds 6.317%, and <strong>Australia<\/strong> holds 5.773%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Board of Governors:<\/strong> The <strong>highest policy-making body<\/strong> of the bank is the Board of Governors, composed of <strong>one representative from each member state<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Directors and deputies:<\/strong> The Board of Governors, in turn, <strong>elect among themselves<\/strong> the twelve members of the board of <strong>directors and their deputies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>President:<\/strong> The Board of Governors also elect the <strong>bank&#8217;s president<\/strong>, who is the <strong>chairperson<\/strong> of the <strong>board of directors<\/strong> and manages ADB.\n<ul>\n<li>Traditionally, and because <strong>Japan<\/strong> is one of the largest shareholders of the bank, the <strong>president has always been Japanese<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"938\">\n<h2>Infrastructure Initiative Announced by ADB<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>5-year initiative<\/strong> aimed at <strong>transforming urban infrastructure across India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">Funding:<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\"> ADB will invest up to <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">$10 billion <\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">into urban transformation including <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">metro extensions, new regional rapid transit system (RRTS) corridors, and urban infrastructure and services.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The plan includes <strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">sovereign loans, private sector financing, and third-party capital<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">Anchored by<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">: The initiative is anchored by <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">India\u2019s flagship Urban Challenge Fund (UCF),<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\"> which ADB is supporting to attract private investment for urban infrastructure.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Urban Challenge Fund (UCF)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was announced in the Budget 2025-26.<\/li>\n<li>It will be a fund of <strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">Rs. 1 lakh crores<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\"> aiming to encourage states to think innovatively towards <\/span><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">attaining sustainable urbanisation and redevelopment goals in existing cities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">Financing mechanism:<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit;
