{"id":340260,"date":"2025-06-13T16:52:29","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T11:22:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=340260"},"modified":"2025-06-15T19:27:31","modified_gmt":"2025-06-15T13:57:31","slug":"black-box","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/black-box\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Box"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News:<\/strong> Authorities have recovered one of two black boxes of the London-bound Air India flight that crashed in a crowded area near Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n<h2>About Black Box<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_340261\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-340261\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-340261\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Source-News18.png?resize=385%2C460&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Source-News18.png?resize=251%2C300&amp;ssl=1 251w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Source-News18.png?w=734&amp;ssl=1 734w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 385px) 100vw, 385px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-340261\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; News18<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>small machine<\/strong> that <strong>records information<\/strong> about an aircraft <strong>during its flight.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is basically a <strong>flight recorder<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This <strong>bright orange or yellow rectangular box (not of black colour)<\/strong>\u00a0is crafted to <strong>withstand explosions, fire, water pressure, and high-speed crashes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Invented by:<\/strong> It was invented by <strong>Australian<\/strong> scientist <strong>David Ronald de Mey Warren<\/strong> in early 1950s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Black boxes in an aircraft:<\/strong> Every commercial aircraft carries <strong>two such recorders<\/strong> &#8211; the <strong>cockpit voice recorder (CVR)<\/strong> and the <strong>flight data recorder (FDR).<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FDR:<\/strong> It logs critical <strong>technical parameters<\/strong> including altitude, speed, engine thrust, and flight path data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CVR<\/strong>: It captures all <strong>cockpit audio<\/strong> &#8211; pilot conversations, radio transmissions, warning alarms, and ambient mechanical sounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inside a black box: <\/strong>A black box consists of <strong>four main parts <\/strong>which are-\n<ul>\n<li>an interface to facilitate recording and playback<\/li>\n<li>a underwater locator beacon<\/li>\n<li>a &#8220;crash survivable memory unit&#8221; to withstand a force equivalent to 3,400 times the force of gravity<\/li>\n<li>a recording chip on a circuit board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Naming as &#8216;Black&#8217; box<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>This equipment had sensors that would optically project around 10 parameters onto a photographic film.<\/li>\n<li>This film ran continuously in a box that was constructed to prevent any light from entering it. <strong>Hence, it was called a \u201cblack box\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Surviving the crash<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is made of strong substances such as <strong>steel or titanium<\/strong> and is <strong>insulated<\/strong> from factors such as extreme heat and cold.<\/li>\n<li>It is purposely <strong>placed towards the tail end<\/strong> of the aircraft, where the impact of a crash is usually the least.<\/li>\n<li>To make black boxes discoverable in situations where they are <strong>underwater<\/strong>, they are equipped with a <strong>beacon<\/strong> that sends out ultrasound <strong>signals for 30 days<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Authorities have recovered one of two black boxes of the London-bound Air India flight that crashed in a crowded area near Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad.
