{"id":34172,"date":"2018-10-30T16:11:41","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T10:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34172"},"modified":"2018-10-30T16:11:41","modified_gmt":"2018-10-30T10:41:41","slug":"insv-tarini-on-second-leg-of-circumnavigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/insv-tarini-on-second-leg-of-circumnavigation\/","title":{"rendered":"INSV Tarini on second leg of circumnavigation:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/insv-tarini-on-second-leg-of-circumnavigation\/article19988248.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INSV Tarini on second leg of circumnavigation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The all-women crew of the Indian Navy sailboat, which is on a challenging expedition of circumnavigating the globe, left port city of Fremantle in Western Australia for its onward journey to New Zealand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Introduction:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vessel had reached Fremantle recently after completion of the first leg of its maiden voyage and is now headed to Lyttelton, \u00a0New Zealand.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The crew is being led by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The voyage titled Navika Sagar Parikrama began from Goa in September and is to be completed in March.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The distance will be covered in five legs, with stopovers at four ports \u2014 Fremantle (Australia), Lyttelton (New Zealand), Port Stanley (Falklands) and Cape Town (South Africa). The 55-foot \u00a0sailing \u00a0vessel, built indigenously, was inducted in the Navy early this year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On October 23, the sailing vessel arrived at Fremantle Port, its first and only stopover in Australia, after completing the first leg of its maiden voyage to circumnavigate the globe.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>INSV Tarini:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INSV Tarini is a 55-foot sailing vessel, which has been built indigenously, and inducted in the Indian Navy earlier this year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INSV Tarini is a sloop built by Divar-based Aquarius Shipyard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is slated to be the platform for the Indian Navy\u2019s first Indian all-women circumnavigation of the globe expedition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has Raymarine navigation suite and an array of satellite communication systems on board through which contact can be made from anywhere.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b> Naming of INSV Tarini :<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INSV Tarini has been named after the Tara-Tarini hill shrine located on the Kumari hills on the banks of Rushikulya river in Ganjam district of Odisha.
