{"id":34206,"date":"2018-10-30T16:20:10","date_gmt":"2018-10-30T10:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34206"},"modified":"2018-10-30T16:20:10","modified_gmt":"2018-10-30T10:50:10","slug":"jnanpith-award-for-krishna-sobti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/jnanpith-award-for-krishna-sobti\/","title":{"rendered":"Jnanpith Award for Krishna Sobti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/entertainment\/krishna-sobti-to-be-honoured-with-jnanpith-award-for-her-contribution-to-hindi-literature-4191321.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jnanpith Award for Krishna Sobti<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noted writer of Hindi literature Krishna Sobti will be conferred with the country&#8217;s highest literary honour, Jnanpith Award this year in 2017 for her path-breaking contribution to Indian literature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Krishna Sobti:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She will be overall eight women to win this prestigious award<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Krishna Sobti She was born on 18 February 1925 in Gujrat Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She also has written under the name <\/span><b>Hashmat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has published <\/span><b>Hum Hashmat,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a compilation of pen portraits of writers and friends<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She is known for enriching Hindi literature by experimenting with new styles and forms of writing and also by minting several words in Hindi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her writings have dealt <\/span><b>with plethora of issues ranging from partition, relationships between man and woman, changing dynamics of Indian society and slow Deterioration of human values.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1980, Sobti was conferred with the Sahitya Akademi Award for her novel <\/span><b><i>Zindaginama<\/i><\/b><b>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In 1996, she was also awarded with the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship,<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Her contributions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of her celebrated works include <\/span><b>Mitro Marjani, Daar Se Bichhudi, Zindaginama, Badalom ke Ghere, Ai Ladki, Dil-o-Danish and<\/b> <b>Gujarat Pakistan Se Gujarat Hindustan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several of her works have been translated into other Indian languages and also in English, Swedish and Russian.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Jnanpith Award:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jnanpith Award Jnanpith Award is India\u2019s highest literary honour.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jnanpith Award is given every year to an author for his\/her outstanding contribution to Indian literature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its name has been taken from Sanskrit words Jnana and Pitha which means knowledge- -seat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was instituted in 1961 by Bharatiya Jnanpith trust founded by the Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain family that owns the Times of India newspaper group.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is bestowed upon any Indian citizen who writes in any <\/span><b>22 official languages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of India mentioned in <\/span><b>VIII Schedule of Constitution of India<\/b> <b>and English.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to 1982, the award was only given for a single work by a writer.
