{"id":342223,"date":"2025-07-07T17:17:39","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T11:47:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=342223"},"modified":"2025-07-07T17:17:39","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T11:47:39","slug":"17th-brics-summit-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/17th-brics-summit-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"17th BRICS Summit, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News:<\/strong> Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated today in the 17th BRICS Summit being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 6-7 July 2025.<\/p>\n<h2>About 17th BRICS Summit, 2025<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_342225\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-342225\" style=\"width: 464px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-342225\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Source-PMO.png?resize=464%2C314&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"464\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Source-PMO.png?resize=300%2C203&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Source-PMO.png?resize=768%2C520&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Source-PMO.png?w=1014&amp;ssl=1 1014w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-342225\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; PMO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Host (President): Brazil<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Theme:<\/strong> &#8216;Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance\u2019<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus of 2025 Summit:<\/strong> The Brazilian Presidency will focus on <strong>two priorities<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The Global South Cooperation; and<\/li>\n<li>BRICS Partnerships for Social, Economic, and Environmental Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Brazil also proposes to <strong>focus on six core areas:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Global health cooperation;<\/li>\n<li>Trade, investment, and finance;<\/li>\n<li>Climate change;<\/li>\n<li>Artificial intelligence (AI) governance;<\/li>\n<li>Multilateral peace and security architecture; and<\/li>\n<li>Institutional development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About BRICS<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an intergovernmental organization <strong>comprising ten countries<\/strong> \u2013 Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Genesis of Idea:<\/strong> The idea of a BRICS-like group can be traced back to <strong>Russian foreign minister Yevgeny Primakov <\/strong>and to the <strong>two forums RIC<\/strong> (Russia, India, China) and <strong>IBSA<\/strong> (India, Brazil, South Africa).<\/li>\n<li><strong>BRIC<\/strong> was originally a <strong>term coined by British economist Jim O&#8217;Neill.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>First Summit:<\/strong> The <strong>first summit in 2009<\/strong> featured the founding countries of <strong>Brazil, Russia, India, and China<\/strong>, where they adopted the acronym <strong>BRIC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>First expansion:<\/strong> In April <strong>2010<\/strong>, <strong>South Africa<\/strong> attended the <strong>2nd BRIC summit as a guest<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>In September 2010, it joined the organization which was then <strong>renamed BRICS<\/strong>, and attended the <strong>3rd BRICS summit in 2011 as a full member<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>BRICS expanded to BRICS+ (second expansion):<\/strong> <strong>Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates<\/strong> attended their <strong>first summit as member states in 2024 <\/strong>in Russia.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Indonesia<\/strong> officially joined as a member state in <strong>early 2025<\/strong>, becoming the <strong>first Southeast Asian member.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated today in the 17th BRICS Summit being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 6-7 July 2025.
